What is tested?

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone:
A hormone made by your pituitary gland that stimulates your thyroid to make thyroxine.
Thyroxine (free T4):
A hormone made by your thyroid. Essential in many of your body’s functions, including metabolism and growth.
Triiodothyronine (free T3):
A hormone made by your thyroid. Essential in many of your body’s functions, including metabolism and growth.
Antithyroglobulin antibodies (anti-Tg):
Made by your immune system to protect your thyroid. Higher levels of these antibodies in your bloodstream may indicate an autoimmune condition.
Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO):
Made by your immune system to protect your thyroid. These antibodies can be a sign of an autoimmune condition.

Early signs of a potential thyroid problem can include:

  • sweating
  • tremors (shaking)
  • difficulty concentrating
  • hair loss
  • dry skin
  • puffiness of your face, hands or feet

This test includes all the same markers measured in our Thyroid Blood Test, but with the addition of triiodothyronine (free T3), antithyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase antibodies. These antibodies can help indicate if you have an autoimmune thyroid condition like Hashimoto's disease.

An autoimmune thyroid condition is when your body’s immune system attacks or overstimulates your thyroid. It can cause your thyroid to become overactive or underactive.

Talk to your doctor before taking this test. Being pregnant can have a noticeable impact on your results, so make sure to check in with your GP first.
